All of you know how much I love summer! I really try to squeeze every moment out of those almost 3 nice months we get here in the Midwest! Yes, I get that spring and fall can be lovely, but I’ve also seen my share of snowfalls in May and October. The problem with all of us hearty souls is that we are so excited when we can walk outside in shorts and t-shirts that it becomes a never-ending party. This often leads to nightly cocktails and before you know it you’re feeling pretty crappy, not sleeping well and energy levels are tanking. Hence the “Virgin Grapefruit Margarita”.

Mocktail Time!
I love that “mocktails” are becoming more socially acceptable. I feel like the constant pressure to cocktail is subsiding a bit with the invention of the sober curious movement as well as fun non-alcoholic cocktails such as Seedlip.
While I don’t always feel like I want to cocktail, I want to be part of the fun. That’s why I came up with a few easy-to-make mocktail recipes. They come together in minutes, taste delicious, and won’t leave you regretting your choices that night or the next day. Yes, “hang-iety” is a REAL thing and I’ve seen it in many clients and also myself if I’m being honest.
I’ve also noticed, especially now that I’m in my fifties, that after having two glasses of wine I can often wake up in the middle of the night feeling a sense of anxiety that is not normally present. This is most likely due to elevated cortisol levels past alcohol consumption. My Oura ring alerts me to a slightly elevated heart rate, increased body temperature, and more restless sleep even after one glass.
You can play with this recipe a bit. If you are looking to cut back on sugars, swap the maple syrup for monk fruit or stevia. If you like your margaritas frozen, throw them in a blender. You can swap the sparkling for still water if that’s your preference. Whatever you do, just make sure to serve in a fancy glass with a condiment!
