Try This: Hydrating Anti-Inflammatory Water Recipe

by | Jan 28, 2021 | Beverages, Recipes | 20 comments

Proper hydration is paramount to good health. Water should be consumed more between meals than during, and it should not be too cold so it does not interfere with digestion.

A good benchmark is to drink at least half of your weight in ounces per day. I typically start each day with a glass of room temperature water to get my system moving and then continue drinking throughout the day.

Staying hydrated helps us by decreasing fatigue, alleviating aches and pains, increasing energy levels, recognize hunger signals, and relieves constipation.

Anti-Inflammatory Water Recipe

Inflammation is a natural function of our bodies but too much of it can be harmful to your health. It can cause our physical and mental health to suffer. This is why, in addition to drinking plenty of high-quality filtered or spring water, I also make a daily batch of anti-inflammatory water to consume each day.

My anti-inflammatory water recipe takes it to the next level because it includes several health-promoting ingredients, such as turmeric, ginger, lemon, cayenne, and raw apple cider vinegar. If you wish, you could make a large bottle of this to drink throughout the week but I typically fill a bottle with a new batch each day. I then sip it throughout the day, in addition to my plain water intake.

Anti-Inflammatory Water Recipe Ingredients

Keep these few ingredients on hand so you can make a new batch each day!

Turmeric

Turmeric and its active ingredient curcumin are known as nature’s ibuprofen. They work to decrease chronic inflammation in the body.

Ginger

Ginger and it’s active constituent gingerols may decrease inflammation and promote good digestion while diminishing nausea

Lemon

Lemon adds good flavor to the water while boosting vitamin c levels and improving digestion

Cayenne

Cayenne contains metabolism-boosting properties and aids in the absorption of the curcumin in turmeric.

Raw Apple Cider Vinegar

ACV improves digestion and is shown to lower blood sugar levels. As mentioned in my list of Clean Eating Pantry Staples, please be sure to purchase raw, with the “mother.”

Hi! Do you think it would still be beneficial to make a few days worth and keep it in the fridge? I’m always looking for ways to prep and simplify. Thank you!

    Will this help with bloating?

Apple Cider Vinegar can help a bit at times with bloating, but that’s typically a sign you have some sort of food sensitivity or are not digesting food properly.

All of the research I have done says peppers are an inflammatory food, including cayenne … do you have issues with it?

    Reply
    • DeeDee Mehren

Just like almost anything, some people do have an inflammatory reaction to peppers, typically this is because they react to the nightshade category of vegetables. Typically this is a very small percentage of the population and these vegetables on the other hand do have many health benefits. A great way to test is to remove them all from your diet for 3 weeks and then introduce again watching how you feel over the next 3 days after consuming.

Hi-Yes, very few people do have reactions to nightshades (peppers, tomatoes, eggplants, etc) and everyone is individual. I can’t comment specifically on medical conditions online. I work with people to optimize their nutrition for specific medical conditions please consult a functional medicine doctor.

Can I use this recipe while pregnant? I was told ibuprofen is bad and you mention turmeric is natures ibuprofen.

It shouldn’t be a problem, but everyone is unique so you should always check with your doctor!

Hello – I’m about to try your drink but all I have right now is organic turmeric from the spice department at the grocery store. Will this be alright, or should I get to a health food store?
    Thank you!

I’ve been drinking this almost daily the week or so, and I believe it is helping with my inflammation and bloating. Eating cleaner helps too, for sure!
I use a lot of fresh ginger in this concoction and pop it in my Nutribullet for a few seconds to get the ginger all smoothed out. Now to come up with a fun name for it besides my “anti-inflammatory concoction”! ☺️

Lovely! Would love to hear your name. Miracle tonic? Or maybe not something quite that dramatic as you are 100% right that clean eating is a big part too!

Yes. They are almost nutritionally identical so that should work! Glad you enjoyed.
