This is the Smoothie Bowl version of my original “Go to Green” Smoothie. This was my very first smoothie creation over 12 years ago now. The story goes that my husband came home from Costco with the impulse purchase of a Vitamix blender. I was actually NOT thrilled believe it or not. It was expensive and I wasn’t convinced it would get the use to justify the purchase. Fast forward those 12 years and I have probably made at least 2000 smoothies! I’ve upgraded that original model and probably gone through several pitchers, but my Vitamix is definitely my most used kitchen appliance.

This smoothie bowl is a great post-recovery meal. It has a good balance of protein and carbohydrates to help you repair muscle tissue and refuel your glucose stores. It also has 15 grams of fiber which will help keep you satiated, manage your weight and feed your good gut bacteria.

The Key Ingredients:

  • Leafy Greens-Packed with vitamins, minerals, and fiber but low in calories. Eating a diet rich in leafy greens can offer numerous health benefits including reduced risk of obesity, heart disease, high blood pressure, and mental decline.
  • Apple/Banana-Fruit is a good source of healthy carbohydrates, fiber, and micronutrients. Whole food carbs help fuel athletic performance and recovery.
  • Frozen Riced Cauliflower-High in fiber, a great source of antioxidants, sulforaphane (known for cancer cell suppression), and choline which is great for brain health.
  • Almond Butter-Nut butters are packed with healthy fats and protein, critical for satiety and muscle repair.
  • Protein Powder-A tough workout damages muscle tissues in order for them to grow back stronger. Protein, which is made up of amino acids helps to do the repair work so you are ready for your next workout.
  • Cinnamon-Cinnamon is well known for its blood-sugar-lowering properties. Apart from the beneficial effects on insulin resistance, cinnamon can lower blood sugar by several other mechanisms.
  • Psyllium husk-Psyllium is a soluble fiber used primarily as a gentle bulk-forming laxative in products such as Metamucil but without all the nasty stuff added.
