It’s fall here in the midwest, so of course, everyone focuses on one thing and one thing only…pumpkin spice and anything you can create with it.
Most think of the go-to Starbucks PSL as soon as the weather starts to turn and the leaves start to change, but thanks, no thanks to the 380 calories and 50 grams of sugar. Not only is that just wasted calories due to lack of nutrient content, but consuming this drink will put you on a blood sugar roller coaster that will leave you crashing an hour later.
I would much rather get my Pumpkin Spice fix with my Collagen Warm Pumpkin Spice Smoothie, which I promise will curb the PSL cravings! It offers all the yumminess of fall in a cup, and the benefit of protein, healthy fats, and fiber. This warm smoothie will keep you full for hours and won’t leave your blood sugar spiraling.

Warm smoothies are my relatively new love. I’ve been a smoothie girl for about 10 years but didn’t even really consider warming them up until last year. In previous winters, I would make my smoothie earlier in the morning and let it sit on the counter until it was about room temperature. I also added warming spices such as cinnamon, ginger, or nutmeg. I try to eat somewhat seasonally and follow the lessons of Ayurveda. As a vata, and a person who gets cold very easily, I hate consuming cold things during the winter months..unfortunately, that pretty much means October-May here in Illinois.
Since I’ve discovered warm smoothies, they have been my go-to, especially after my cold winter walks & runs. I so look forward to coming home and enjoying a cup of yummy & delicious goodness, knowing that I am doing good things for my health as well.
